about
Hailing from Florida's dance music scene, Randy Garcia made a name for himself as the founder of boutique label Nophi Records and through his varied and eclectic releases. He now makes a decisive move toward hook-laden indie pop with The Nerd Parade, teaming up with Abby Wren, who's astounding voice and distinctive personality adds a truly soulful tone to Garcia's cunningly melodic backdrops and beats. Vocally, Garcia and Wren blend together naturally sounding at times like an oddly perfect pairing of Stephin Merritt and Kierin Kirby (The Magnetic Fields and Dee-Lite respectively).

A Delicate Bashing is a refreshing parade of endearing, bedroom indie-pop juxtaposed with danceable electronica and delicate R&B. If one phrase could sum up the disc, it would be "irresistible fun". Every once and a while a record comes around that just becomes your personal soundtrack for months on end. It's on repeat in the car stereo and ipod, it bleeds into your dreams, and it serves as a wake-up boost with your morning coffee. A Delicate Bashing has become that record for all the staff and friends of Headphone Treats. It took hearing only one verse "Kitten" for me to beg and plead Randy Garcia into joining our family collective.

And yet, consensus on a favorite track eludes us entirely. The infectious melody and distorted bass of "Smedley" is exhilarating, the magnetically soulful appeal of Abby Wren's vocal on "A Bird's Song" instantly wins hearts, it is simply impossible not to become obsessed with "Kenny Rogers Tune", the dub-infused "The Devil Of California" has become a personal favorite, and well... we could go on about every song, but I'll spare you our beaming.

Our lives are enriched by the music The Nerd Parade have offered up on this record, and we hope you get as much out of it as we have.
